Armando Diaz

History

Armando is the 59-year-old son of the late Marino Diaz, who in the latter years of his life served as a talented leader in the traditional style of his own Matsigenka people. Armando exhibits the same characteristics in his own leadership as he fulfills the role he believes God has called him to, that of a traveling missionary-pastor to his own people.

Armando and his wife Dora have five adult sons, three married and two single. One of the latter was making a serious effort to pursue a post-high school education but had to discontinue due to lack of funds.

In the ‘80s, Armando very successfully traveled among many Matsigenka villages presenting the “Jesus Film”. Subsequently, he was asked to serve as the treasurer of a newly formed native mission agency. Each year when he announced his intention to return to the indigenous Matsigenka church of which he was the pastor, he was prevailed upon to stay in the city until a replacement could be found. Year by year he continued on until recently when he was informed that the position of treasurer would no longer be funded. In spite of being suddenly left with no income and almost simultaneously beseiged by serious medical needs for himself and two of his sons, his vision for serving his people has not wavered.

Armando is highly spoken of and respected by many of his people including Pastor Román Bernaldez who credits him with his own spiritual development. He is also in need of ongoing support to cover daily living expenses as well as to enable him to make the trips he is currently projecting to visit isolated Matsigenka communities in the Bajo Urubamba area and beyond.
