Decapolis
Who We AreDecapolis Community Development Center is a community-based development program working in impoverished, rural communities in Nigeria to share the redemptive work of Christ through regenerative agriculture.
Vision and MissionWe target the most vulnerable and empower them - through hands-on training in regenerative agriculture, teaching them how they can feed their families and make a profit on less than 1 acre of land in order to dynamically interrupt the cycle of poverty through the practices of regenerative agriculture and financial stewardship! Utilizing just 1/8 of an acre can sustainably feed a family of 6 for a year with a total input cost of just $50. Scaling up to two plots can feed a family AND yield a profit of up to $400. By empowering farmers with these practices, they can achieve self-sufficiency, escape poverty, and secure a better future for themselves and their families.
By offering continued mentorship and encouragement through monitoring and evaluation, we ensure that high standards are maintained for verifiable results. Our multi-day trainings for small-scale farmers and community leaders are currently held at our training locations in FCT Abuja and Kogi State. We also do on-site trainings in communities across the country for local farmers and farmers' cooperatives, with special consideration given to IDP camps, orphanages, and after-care programs for trafficking victims. With over 1,000 small-scale farmers trained in the first year (2024), we are projecting 5,000-10,000 farmers trained in year two (2025). |
History/Impact Since November 2023, Decapolis has trained over 1,200 small-scale Nigerian farmers, produced over 258 tonnes of organic fertilizer, installed renewable energy solutions in over 10 households in rural Nigeria, and trained 20 new trainers to reach even further across Nigeria. We've offered hope and a fresh start for internally displaced people (IDPs) affected by banditry and kidnapping, provided opportunities for recovery and new beginnings for human trafficking victims in aftercare programs, made farming a viable option for those in the disabled community to feed and provide for their families, provided a tool in bringing sustainable peace to the farmer/herder crisis, and empowered rural communities and unemployed youth by providing a livelihood through farming and strengthening food security nationwide.
How You Can Help In 2024, Decapolis trained 1,000 small-scale farmers in regenerative agriculture, empowering them to feed themselves and their families for life. Our goal for this year is to train 10,000!! Your giving can help Decapolis increase our impact ten-fold.
Just $35 (the cost for one person to attend a training session) can feed a farmer and his or her family for life! By implementing the training we offer, farmers are seeing a 300% yield increase within the first year, and with an almost zero input cost method, they are able to sustainably farm to eat and make a profit for the rest of their lives! Financial contributions also help us to provide our new trainers with training kits - enabling training to be localized and more cost-effective and efficient, cover the logistical costs of running trainings, and help us to expand and diversify our program offerings into alternative crops, animal husbandry, agroforestry, and responsible financial planning and stewardship.
