Words cannot begin to express the profound impact Dr. Reed had on my life as a student at DBU. I had the privilege of taking several courses with him in the Communications Department. He would often begin class with the latest news headline, and somehow, without exception, he would gently and powerfully weave the Word of God into every discussion, making it come alive in the context of the world around us. What could have been ordinary moments became sacred ones.
There were many times when the Lord would unveil my eyes, allowing me to see an angel standing beside him as he spoke—walking in with him and leaving alongside him. There was a holy quality to his presence; his class periods would often turn into opportunities to grow closer to the Lord, pointing beyond himself to the goodness of God. As a second-generation missionary, he didn’t just talk about the love of Christ he lived it. He carried it into every conversation, every interaction, and every quiet moment. His wife and children were the heartbeat of his life, and it showed. He spoke of them with such love and pride, taking every opportunity to honor them.
Dr. Reed made each person feel deeply cared for and included. His gentle and kind spirit, his compassion, and his quiet, dry humor created a space where you could be yourself, belong, and grow. He listened—truly listened—more than he spoke, and when he did speak, his words carried wisdom, thoughtfulness, and grace. He saw people in the spirit, and he valued them. Those who knew him understand his quiet strength and faithful consistency. His life spoke volumes, not just through words, but through the anointing he carried. His legacy is not only in what he taught, but in the countless lives he touched, shaped, and pointed toward Christ.
It is with deep sorrow that I write these words, through tears that reflect both grief and gratitude. Thank you, Dr. Reed, for your encouragement, your compassion, and your unwavering faithfulness. Thank you for being a light in a world that so desperately needs it. It is with the utmost gratitude to the Lord that we honor your life and legacy. We have not just lost a professor—we have lost a general of the faith, a mentor, and a steady example of Christ’s love. And although we grieve deeply, we know that Heaven has gained a great saint, a faithful warrior, and a disciple of God. His legacy will continue for many generations to come.
